Abstract

Investigation of the soil water movement, under unsaturated conditions, depends upon field measurements of soil hydraulic properties, such as saturated hydraulic conductivity and sorptivity. However, there is a discrepancy between the representative scale of estimates of soil physics and the scales for hydrological modeling. In addition to this issue, the spatial variability of the soil hydraulic properties must be taken into account. The objective of this work was mapping probability classes of the soil hydraulic properties, saturated hydraulic conductivity and sorptivity, of a Fluvent in the semi-arid part of Paraiba State. These properties were estimated, in an area of 4 ha, on the basis of field experiments using single ring infiltrometer. The indicator kriging has been used to elaborate probability maps of the saturated hydraulic conductivity and the sorptivity, considering three different threshold levels. The indicator kriging provided the spatial uncertainty pattern in the study area, being estimated, with 80% confidence level, that: for the sorptivity, 38.8% of the area presents values higher than 0.69 mm s-1/2, and for the hydraulic conductivity, 33.1% of the area encompasses values higher than 0.015 mm s-1.
