Abstract
I did not intend my report on the Global Catastrophes meeting to rule out a contributing role for volcanism in the history of terrestrial mass extinctions. Nor did I suggest that there was necessarily no relationship between impacts and some volcanism. Indeed, I reported on evidence that might link periodic impacts with periodic terrestrial volcanism, an idea that Hooper advocates. But Hooper's argument that Deccan volcanism was integrally responsible for the K‐T extinctions is not compelling.
