Abstract
Studies on a patient with hereditary spherocytosis and a functioning splenunculus are reported. An inverse relationship between splenic size and red cell survival was observed. Evidence was obtained which further verified that red cell survival in hereditary spherocytosis is not related to the shape or to the osmotic sensitivity of the cell and that more than one type of hereditary spherocytosis exists.
