The activities of lactate dehydrogenase (all isozymes and isozyme‐X alone) in the presence of a wide range of gossypol were examined in ejaculated mature boar spermatozoa. It was found that LDH‐X, a characteristic isozyme located mainly in primary spermatocytes, is more sensitive than the other isozymes to gossypol inhibition. Its possible role in the male antifertility effect of gossypol is discussed.
