Abstract
In 1964, a replicated thinning trial was established in a Pinus radiata stand in the State Forest Reserve Tokai. This article deals with a statistical and mensurational analysis of the rate of basal area-, diameter- and volume growth in relation to stand density in addition to the effect of stand density on crown width and crown length. In 1973, 13 sample trees were felled and their needle biomass was estimated by sampling. The needle biomass distribution was subsequently related to the vertical growth distribution.
