While a total intensity aeromagnetic map does not reflect the lithology and structure, gravity anomalies clearly delineate the subsurface geology. The intense anomaly zone may be caused by the combined effect of mafic dikes, ferruginous quartzites, and traps. The synclinal parts are reflected by gravity anomalies higher than those over the anticlinal parts. Analysis of the Bouguer anomalies shows that the thickness of the basic volcanic suite varies from 0.8 to 2.5 km, and that the depth of the Chitaldrug granite is about 7.2 km. Negative gravity anomalies over the schists denser than the granite suggest a granitic-gneissic basement below the thin layer of schists. The study suggests that the average density of the upper part of the crust in this area has been reduced due to granitic emplacement. This content is PDF only. Please click on the PDF icon to access.
