A Fungal Leaf Spot Disease of Grapes Cercospora vitis (Lév) Sacco.*

Abstract

Summary A leaf spot disease of grapes caused by Cercospora vitis (Lév.) Sacc. is described for the first time in New Zealand. An outline of the taxonomic implications of conidium shape and developmental morphology in the causal fungus is presented, as well as studies on cultural growth, sporulation and spore germination. Infection studies revealed a hitherto unrecorded latent infection stage in the disease cycle.
