Abstract Imidacloprid was less effective in reducing ant populations than a mixture of pirimiphos‐methyl and bifenthrin, while the mixture also greatly reduced the number of spiders. Imidacloprid caused some reduction in spider numbers for a week after spraying but then numbers rose substantially. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd
