However, there is a paucity of report related with the effect of the management of OAB to the female sexual function. We evaluated the impact of medical treatment of OAB on female sexual function. METHODS This study was an open label, non-comparative prospective study conducted in 5 urology centers in Korea between Aug 2010 and Mar 2012. A total of 148 sexually active women who suffered from the OAB symptoms defined as 1 time or more urgency with frequency of micturation 8 times or more per day was enrolled in this trial and received the solifenacin 5mg once daily for 12 weeks. All patients were asked to complete the Korean version of King¡&cjs0287;s Health Questionnaires (KHQ) and three days voiding diary at the enrollment and repeatedly at 12 weeks after medication. In addition to the KHQ and voiding diary, all patients were asked to fill out the Korean version of female sexual function index (FSFI) to assess the impact of medication with solifenacin to the female sexual function at baseline and week 12. RESULTS The mean age was 39.4 ¡¾ 4.3 and mean FSFI total score was 22.7 ¡¾ 3.2, respectively. The daytime micturation times (13.4/day to 8.3/day, p<0.001), functional bladder capacity (168.6ml to 251.8ml, p<0.001) and urgency episodes (2.1/day to 1.6/day, p=0.036) were significantly improved after solifenacin medication while there was no significant improvement of nocturnal voiding times (2.4/day to 1.8/day, p=0.264) in the analysis of voiding diary. In the assessment of the change of sexual function by sub analysis of FSFI, the score of desire (2.94 to 3.81, p=0.023), arousal (2.92 to 3.87, p=0.041) and satisfactory (2.90 to 3.98 p<0.001) domains showed significant improvement after solifenacin medication while other domains and total score did not affected in the period of this trials. CONCLUSIONS The management of OAB with solifenacin had positive effect on the female sexual function especially on the arousal, desire and satisfaction.
