Abstract
A direct and elementary proof of the reversal of the triangle inequality in Minkowski spacetime in relativity is given which is the statement that the straight line between two points is not the shortest but actually the longest unlike the situation in Euclidean space. The `twin paradox' is a special case of this inequality.
