Abstract

A new technique is described to measure the complex permittivity of high loss fluids at 9 GHz. Measurements on methyl alcohol and ethylene glycol are reported. The permittivity and loss tangent are calculated from changes in the resonant frequency and Q-factor of a resonant cavity which is coupled to an evanescent waveguide which contains the fluid sample.
