Abstract
A TLC–spectrophotometric method was proposed for the estimation of xanthotoxin, imperatorin and bergapten, i. e., the main furocoumarins present in the fruits of Ammi majus. This method depends on separating these furocoumarins by TLC, followed by their elution, and spectrophotometric determination. Calculations were made referring to previously prepared standard curves. The sensitivity of the method was confirmed by determining the percentage recoveries of xanthotoxin, imperatorin and bergapten and which were found to be 99.7–102.2, 96.17–98.1 and 97.3–98.2 respectively.
