Abstract
Abstract Transbromination of chlorobenzene and of toluene with bromobenzene under the influence of aluminium bromide‐[82 Br] is accompanied by some bromine exchange between organic and inorganic bromides. However, since many bromine atoms are transferred for every bromine atom exchanging with the catalyst, the bromine atoms present in the brominating species (e.g. Br⊕Al2Br7⊖) are not in a state of rapid equilibration. The ratio of transfer and exchange is appreciably greater for toluene than for chlorobenzene as the acceptor.
