Abstract
SYNOPSIS. The incidence of antiprotozoal antibiotics in 227 cultures of Aspergillaceae isolated from soil samples from China and Czechoslovakia as tested against 7 species of protozoa is presented, revealing a relatively high incidence of substances specifically active against various protozoa. The method described can be used to screen for antiprotozoal antibiotics. The high specificity of the antiprotozoal activity of the substances produced indicates the importance of using the pathogen itself and not “model organisms” in screening new antiprotozoal antibiotics.
