Left handed transmission properties of planar metamaterials based on complementary double-ring resonators

Abstract

We investigate the transmission properties of planar metamaterials based on complementary double-ring resonators, and a left-handed resonant transmission peak has been verified by both simulation and experimental results. The theoretical analysis and numerical simulation on the electromagnetic fields inside the metamaterial are provided to explain the physical origin of both electric and magnetic resonances. In addition, the backward wave propagation from the phase changes in the moving picture of electric field distribution is shown to confirm the left-handed behavior of the transmission line.
