Abstract
We present a detailed study of chiral-symmetry breaking in the semiclassical approximation of the two-dimensional Abelian Higgs model with massless fermions. Emphasis is on examining the consistency of the dynamical symmetry-breaking mechanism with the requirements of gauge invariance.
