As shown by the epidemiologic study of Huston and colleagues, reported in this journal 3 months ago (1), it is not a rare disease in elderly persons. Best known is the picture of temporal arteritis: An elderly patient has severe headache, tender thickened temporal artery, and a very rapid erythrocyte sedimentation rate. But the disease is not localized to the temporal artery.
