Abstract
The body size of larvae and the age structure of populations of three chironomid species (Chironomidae) from the Lake Baikal littoral was studied. Young larvae 1.0–2.6 mm long were abundant during the whole period investigated (August 2000–August 2001). Parameters of the equation that allows determining the weight of midge larvae by the width of their head capsule or by their body length were calculated for Paratanytarsus baicalensis, Orthocladius nitidoscutellatus , and Orthocladius sp.
