Management of True Ptosis of the Breast

Robert R. Brink

Open publisher page 41 citations

Abstract

A variation of the "Round Block" periareolar (Benelli) mastopexy is described which is applicable to breasts with true ptosis, the tubular breast deformity, and its lesser expressions. The characteristics of and differences between the various types of breast ptosis are reviewed. The thesis is set forth that: (1) The specific anatomic characteristics of true breast ptosis make this condition eminently treatable with a pursestring (modified Benelli Round Block) mastopexy. (2) The anatomic characteristics of other forms of breast ptosis require attention the pursestring mastopexy is not well adapted to. (3) Selection of procedures used to treat ptosis of the breast should be "type specific."
