Abstract
Non-diuretic antihypertensive agents now are frequently used in the treatment of patients with mild essential hypertension (Campese 1980; Mroczek 1983). In these patients, blood pressure is often controlled using oral therapy with a single agent. Recently, a new delivery system for monotherapy with the centrally-acting sympatholytic agent clonidine has become available. In this study, we describe the results of a multicenter study using an adhesive skin device containing clonidine (Catapres-TTS). The results indicate that treatment with a transdermal delivery system for clonidine is effective and well tolerated in patients with mild hypertension.
