Abstract
Infused arginine-8-vasopressin or Pitressin was found to cause diuresis in both anesthetized and trained conscious dogs. Increased chloride excretion occasionally accompanied the diuresis. Previous observations of vasopressin-induced diuresis in the alcoholized and hydrated rat are thus confirmed in another species and anesthesia is ruled out as a decisive factor in this phenomenon. The diuresis occurred with regular frequency provided that a low basal urine flow rate with high urinary chloride concentration preceded the infusion of sub-antidiuretic amounts of vasopressin.
