Abstract
IT has been the experience of those who have used the sulfonylurea compounds that they are, for the most part, not effective in children with diabetes or in adults with unstable, juvenile type of diabetes. Our findings with Carbutamide** and Tolbutamide†† have been in agreement with this, and in only 19 cases have we attempted to treat such patients with the sulfonylureas. Nevertheless, it seemed desirable to ascertain in a sizeable group of children the effect of a single dose of these drugs since limited data indicated that in the occasional child a satisfactory hypoglycemic response might be obtained.
