Providing nutrition support in pre-dialysis chronic kidney disease

Abstract

Nutrition support in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a cornerstone treatment for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and there is growing awareness this is also essential in the pre-dialysis or pre-dialysis period. Current treatment strategies and practice guidelines are based on either evidence from dialysis populations or from a limited range of studies in pre-dialysis. This paper will review the literature regarding the nutritional management in chronic kidney disease, to identify effectiveness of nutrition support and supplementation in pre-dialysis.
