Abstract
The return of the religious factor to politics in the form of fundamentalism is a theme that is particularly relevant today, in policy decisions as in scholarly discussions and literature. The problems are especially acute and alarming when fundamentalism (to be more precise, its militarized extremist wing) causes suffering and death. Then this phenomenon is identified in the public mind with terrorism, medieval obscurantism, and fanaticism.
