Abstract
ABSTRACT The medical records and IVP examinations of 143 patients presenting with renal colic have been reviewed. The study has demonstrated that renal colic is more common in males, is rare under the age of 20 and may be precipitated by dehydration. The IVP has been shown to be a useful examination in renal colic due to nephrolithiasis, providing guidance to management. The majority of patients with renal colic due to nephrolithiasis will have partial obstruction on IVP by a radiopaque calculus, less than 4 mm in diameter which will pass spontaneously, reflecting the generally benign nature of this condition.
