Fundoplication for hiatus hernia

Abstract Eighty-eight patients who had symptomatic hiatus hernia were treated by fundoplication during 1967-70. Worth-while symptomatic benefit was achieved in 88 per cent of the patients who had reflux only and in 80 per cent of those who had radiologically demonstrable strictures as well as reflux. Both as a primary and ‘salvage’ operation fundopliction gave equally good results, relieving 86 per cent of patients of their symptoms.
