Abstract
Details are given of a NaI(Tl) multidimensional gamma−ray spectrometer employing a low−cost liquid−scintillation−counter anticoincidence ring which has been constructed at Indiana State University. Data are presented on the background counting rates of this spectrometer both with and without the anticoincidence ring operating, and comparisons are made with the background of a very similar spectrometer employing a NaI(Tl) anticoincidence ring. The liquid−scintillator anticoincidence ring is shown to be effective, and capable of improvement so as to bring the background of the spectrometer down to nearly the same level as with a NaI(Tl) ring.
