Abstract

The Pierre Auger Observatory has been designed to observe ultra high energy cosmic rays employing two independent techniques. It consists of a surface array overlooked by air fluorescence telescopes which together provide a powerful instrument for air shower reconstruction. The hybrid reconstruction approach and its performance are described and the hybrid detector exposure derived using an accurate simulation which takes into account the exact and time dependent working conditions of the experiment.
