Abstract
The proximate, group, and ultimate analysis of walnut shells was performed from the standpoint of their applicability as a raw material for the production of activated charcoal. It was found that the composition of walnut shells was close to that of birch wood, which is used for the manufacture of BAU and OU activated charcoals. Dried and ground walnut shells can be used as a raw material for the production of activated charcoal by carbonization followed by the steam-gas activation of the carbonization products. It was found that the adsorption activity of activated charcoal increased with the combustion loss of the carbonization products.
