Abstract

Technical and institutional strategies that are needed to develop solutions to hazardous waste management problems are surveyed. These strategies involve increasing public understanding of the nature of radioactive waste disposal and treatment problems/ developing procedures to assess hazardous wastes and waste sites/ increasing state involvement in hazardous waste disposal and treatment facility siting decisions/ establishing an environmental research center dedicated to hazardous waste RandD; and increasing cooperation between those involved in public policy questions and those concerned with the technical issues of waste disposal.
