Abstract

In this evocative autoethnography, I share the story of my last visit with a family member who was dying of cancer. Using the metaphor of a journey, I present the complex and emotionally contradictory meaning of a loved one's death within the context of my life as it continues to unfold in mundane, everyday fashion. Through my story, I explore the ways in which love, loss, and remembrance are inextricably bound together in lived experience. By embracing a purely literary and embodied form of representation, I invite others into my experience in an effort to create a space for a dialogue of possibilities around the subject of loss and trauma.
