Utilization of genetic diversity and its association characters in mungbean [Vigna radiata(L.) Wilczek]

Abstract

Phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation, heritability, genetic advance, correlation coefficient and path coefficient analysis were estimated for yield and yield components in 35 genotypes of mungbean. High heritability estimates coupled with high genetic advance were observed for seed yield per plant, 100 grain weight, plant height, seeds/pod and days to flowering. Yield was positive and significantly correlated with number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod and 100 grain weight. Pods/plant seeds/pod and 100 grain weight contributed maximum positive and direct effect for yield indicating those emphasis should be given on these three for developing high yielding mungbean variety suitable for rain-fed and irrigated conditions.
