A new class of optically faint galaxies (ELFs), with extreme far-infrared luminosities comparable with those of quasars, has been identified from IRAS data. Here we present VLA observations of a small sample, made in order to determine whether this enormous luminosity is a result of Seyfert or starburst activity. We conclude that the sample contains members of both the Seyfert and starburst categories, a result which has important implications for the size of the quasar/Seyfert population.
