The measurement of the scintillation efficiencies of a number of mixtures based on medicinal paraffin is described. It is shown that it is possible to choose mixtures having efficiencies comparable to the best liquid scintillator and better than plastic scintillator. A mixture suitable for use in whole-body counters is recommended. This makes the construction of a highly sensitive whole-body counter possible at a comparatively small cost.
