Abstract
IntroductionA variety of pathologic conditions have been associated with increased hip motion in recent years. Specifically, injuries to the capsular (iliofemoral- IF) ligaments and acetabular labrum have gained interest because they have been reported to serve as primary contributors to joint stability. However, the relative role of each of these structures in maintaining hip stability has not been shown. The purpose of this study was to determine the relative contributions of the acetabular labrum and IF ligaments in maintaining hip stability as measured by external rotation and anterior translation of the femur relative to the center of the acetabulum when performing the log roll test (also known as the dial test).
