Abstract
The study was carried out on 30 male adult mice divided in three groups. In a 100-day experiment each animal was given daily at 8 a.m. 1 ml of a sodium fluoride solution (400 ppm F). At noon the first group was given 3 ml of a 0.45% sodium chloride solution per animal, the second group 3 ml of a 0.65% sodium nitrate solution, while the mice in the third group were given 3 ml distilled water. The fluoride content in the tibial ash of mice receiving NaCl and NaNO3 was found to be significantly lower than that of the control animals receiving no salt addition. The possible implications for caries prevention by means of fluoridated domestic salt are discussed.
