Abstract
A growth analysis of Phleum pratense L. (timothy) and of Dactylis glomerata L. (cocksfoot) was done to observe the behavior of the two species in pure and mixed stands and at two densities under a small-plot field experiment. The results have shown that for most of the growth period timothy was the dominant species in the mixture and that cocksfoot showed signs of dominance only during the last few weeks. The two species behaved similarly, whether grown at high or at low densities. These results are discussed in the light of other workers' findings.
