Abstract

A hydrogen vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) laser was used for the first time in an investigation of the photoionization of molecules in a mass spectrometer. Ionizing VUV laser radiation made it possible to increase considerably the performance of a photoionization mass spectrometer in analytic applications and in studies of one- and two-photon ionization of molecules in gaseous media.
