Abstract
Tests were conducted with Dursban® (O, O-diethyl O-3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridyl phosphorothioate) to determine its effectiveness against the chigger Neoschögastia americana (Hirst). In 1967, 4 pounds (active ingredient) Dursban wettable powder spray were applied to a 1/120-acre pen, giving satisfactory control for 7 weeks following treatment. In 1968 a l-acre plot was treated with 4 pounds (active ingredient) per acre. This spray treatment prevented downgrading type lesions for 6 weeks. In another test using the same rate and formulation, using 50 turkey toms in each a treated and untreated pen, an increase of $41.35 per 50 birds was realized from the treatment, based on the increased grade and yield.
