Abstract
SUMMARY In field trials at Rothamsted, benomyl, thiabendazole, oxycarboxm and ‘Plondrel’ were tested as sprays or seed dressings on winter wheat. None of the treatments affected take‐all ( Gaeumannomyces graminis ) but benomyl and thiabendazole sprays decreased eyespot ( Cercosporella herpotrichoides ) and increased sharp eyespot ( Rhizoctonia solani ). Further field and glasshouse experiments confirmed that sharp eyespot was increased by the application of benomyl and showed that it was also increased by the absence of C. herpotrichoides.
