Abstract
This paper presents the descriptions of a new genus and new species, Latagophthirus rauschi, collected from the river otter, Lutra canadensis pacifica Rhoads, in Coos County, Oregon. The family Echinophthiriidae is redefined, and a key to the genera is provided. The evolutionary significance of Latagophthirus is also discussed.
