Abstract
Prostate cancer (CaP) has long been recognized as an androgen dependent tumor. In the 1940s, Huggins and Hodges demonstrated that patients experienced decreased CaP related bone pain after orchiectomy (38). Subsequent clinical trials have shown decreased CaP-specific mortality in patients treated with orchiectomy or its equivalent (21). Such observations have engendered great interest in the role that androgens play in the development of the prostate and prostate cancer (CaP).
