Abstract
UBV surface photometry is presented for the SB(s)c galaxy NGC 7479. These data are presented as derived aperture photometry, surface magnitude and color index maps, and luminosity and color index profiles through a number of selected features. It is found that surface photometry corroborates solid-body rotation for the bar and the bar-to-arm transition region. A bar-like region containing no new star formation is found parallel to the bright, blue bar and displaced to the west by about 3 arcsec. The dust lane associated with the southern bar-to-arm transition region is found to be the site of new star formation, assuming that the reddening law in NGC 7479 is similar to that for our Galaxy. Recent star formation, inferred from low values of the Q index, is associated with plumes between the main spiral arms and the bar.
