Abstract

On the basis of the behavior of the coherence length of disordered cuprate superconductors, it has been found that in these systems there is a direct suppression of the effective pairing interaction between the carrier holes by the doped impurities. A phenomenological model has been set up to examine the effect of the suppression of the pairing interaction on the degradation of the superconducting transition temperature. It is argued that the direct suppression of the pairing interaction is a dominating source of ${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{c}}$ degradation in the cuprate superconductors.
