Abstract

The design of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) incorporates ASME Code safety valves in order to prevent overpressurization of the primary coolant system. This paper describes a facility that was built to test full scale safety valves. The types of PWR transients simulated and the various modes of facility operation are described. Also presented are typical test results that demonstrate the success achieved in simulating the desired transients.
