Abstract
Abstract— A new design for a cholesteric liquid‐crystal (CLC) color filter has been devised. Since this system absorbs no light, it uses backlight energy very efficiently. When CLCs of this type with an expanded selective reflection band are combined with light sources with sharp RGB emission peaks, such as LEDs, it is possible to reduce the dependence of color shift on viewing angle and make more efficient use of light.
