Interaction between Two Ferrocene Groups Linked by Methoxyterthienyl “Molecular Wire”

Methoxyterthiophene substituted with two terminal ferrocenyl groups was prepared. The oxidation process and the oxidized state of the compound were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, coulometry, and electronic absorption spectroscopy. The measurements show that an oxidized species is first produced on a ferrocene moiety and definitely interacts not only with the methoxythiophene moiety but also with the other ferrocene moiety. This indicates that the oxidized species spread over almost the entire molecule.
