Assertive community treatment and severe mental illness

Abstract
Assertive community treatment can be considered the recipe under which inter-agency, interdisciplinary, operational and philosophical components are mixed to produce services which have a positive impact upon the severely mentally ill, and the communities in which they live. It pulls together processes, such as care management and the care programme approach and treatment and rehabilitation, as well as addressing the need for 24-hour services, housing, and matters of everyday survival for severely mentally ill people.
