Abstract
The control of fugitive-dust emissions from coal handling is an area of increasing concern. Compliance with federal pollution standards and reduction of fuel losses from yard-handling techniques are the motivation behind current research in this area. Coal-handling systems can be separated into two types requiring different control strategies: transfer points and storage piles. Emission control techniques used in both strategies are surveyed. Most dust control systems are still in the testing stage, which makes it difficult for companies to select the appropriate equipment for their operations. (3 photos, 6 references)
