Abstract

A model is described that interpolates between the SU(2) lattice gauge theory with mixed fundamental and adjoint actions and the U(1) lattice gauge theory with mixed charge-1 and charge-2 actions. The phase diagram of the interpolating model is explored by Monte Carlo calculations. The result shows how the phase transitions of the SU(2) and U(1) lattice gauge theories are related. Also, the monopole configuration is shown to be a stable solution of the field equations for adjoint coupling.
